Tamang Heritage Trail

Tamang heritage trail situated at North of the Kathmandu valley, this trek is the most accessible, short, and exciting trekking region in Nepal. Tamang Heritage trails offer the most stunning scenery of the country- Terrence farm, lush forest, and the mountains of the Langtang Region, Langtang Lirung, and Ganesh Himal, the edge of the Tibetan border. The village on the route is the residence of Tamang People, nearly related to Tibetans, also the culture ids Buddhist with a good sprinkling of prayer wheels, Chortens, Prayer Flags, and Mani walls along the route.

The Tamang Culture originally arrive from Tibet as horse sellers and residents in hilly parts of Nepal, hundred years ago. Tamang culture has historically been one of the most relegate ethnic groups in Nepal. This trail was badly affected by the 2015 earthquake, and they were among the worst affected ones, as their settlement tented to be in vulnerable areas.

Tamang heritage trail is situated near the Tibetan border, which was previously a restricted area and opened to visitors lately. Trekking to this trail offers the tradition, culture, and religion that goes back hundreds of years, and the artistry, dress and classic stone-mud house are evidence of this ancient background.

Best season for Tamang Heritage trek

Nepal has four different seasons in a year Summer/Monsoon (June July and August), winter (December, January, and February), Spring (March, April, and May), and Autumn (September, October, and November).

Spring and autumn are the best seasons to do Tamang Heritage Trail due to the lower altitude of this trek, this season offers the best views and excitement of trekking.

Winter season also offers the best environment to do Tamang heritage trail and the scenery is likely to be stunning currently, just prepare with extra warm layers.

Monsoon/summer is the time of frequent rainfalls and high Humid, views will not be so good as Spring and Autumn, also it will be difficult to trek on the muddy and slippery trail.

Tamang Heritage Trail Itinerary

DAY 1: DRIVE FROM KATHMANDU TO SYABRUBESI (1467M-7 HOURS) On the First Day, we take a drive of seven hours from Kathmandu to the gateway of the Langtang valley, Syabrubeshi. Tamang heritage trail is one of the nearest trekking trails from Kathmandu, we will drive through the hilly and climbing high, which offers stunning panoramic views of stunning The Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, and the peaks of the Langtang valley.
DAY 2: TREK TO GATLANG (2238M-6 HOUR) On the second day, we will start the ascent hike from the main street of Syabrubeshi and follow the trail. Shortly, the trail turns into stone stairs and pass through buckwheat and mustard field. We will take a break for lunch at the tea house at Bahun Danda Pass, 2100. We will continue our pace after lunch, through the cliff walk at Tsamkhang stupa, where we can see the Lama with a group of Tamang women performed mantras. We will continue or walk by observing the views of Goljang valley, the Gosaikunda, and Ganesh Himal. A few hour walks will take us to the Gatlang village, where the houses have wooden carved shutters, colorful decoration by Tibetan art. Overnight at Gatlang Village
DAY 3: TREK TO TATOPANI (2607M-7 HOURS) Today's trek starts by descending to Thanbuchet, via the lovely river. We will follow a line of Chortens, lead us towards the Bamdang Khola Valley. We will continue our walk through the narrow trail and stone stairs up to Chilime Village, 1762m. We will stop for lunch at Chera Hamlet, 2038m. After lunch, we will head up again, across a suspension bridge, and climb to Tatopani. Tatopani means hot water in Nepali, here we can enjoy the pleasure of natural hot spring water. DAY 4: TREK TO THUMAN (2338M-5 HOURS) Today, we will follow the ascending trek to Nagthali Danda, 3300m, the high land, and open grassland with a stunning view of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Range. We will stop for lunch at Bridang village, at 2848m. We will continue our pace up to Nagthali Danda, where we will stop for tea prepared by the gompas caretaker, then, continue to walk to Thuman, a Tamang village with a friendly environment. DAY 5: TREK TO BRIDDIM (5 HOURS) Today we will walk through the flat trail and descend to the Timure village, the old trade route to Tibet. After lunch, we will continue our walk to Briddim, next to Tamang village, where we can explore the unique culture, food, and living lifestyle of the Tamang community. Accommodation and food will be offered by local houses on a rotational basis. We will explore the whole community and our presence will offer some benefits to the local community and families.
DAY 6: TREK TO SYABRU BESI (3 HOURS) Today the walk will be short and easy, three hours walk will take us to Syabru Besi. We will have lunch there and spend the afternoon relaxing and rambling around the small town, where you can buy some local handicraft made by local women in the local style.
DAY 7: BACK TO KATHMANDU (7 HOURS) 7 hours’ drive to Kathmandu by exploring the mountain scene, Trishuli river.
